FAQs

What is a Christian Counselor?

A Christian counselor is a licensed mental health professional who integrates evidence-based therapy with a faith-informed perspective. This means your counseling experience can include both proven psychological approaches (such as CBT, EMDR, mindfulness, or trauma-informed care) and the option to incorporate Christian beliefs, prayer, or biblical principles if that feels meaningful to you.

Many clients seeking a Christian counselor in Scottsdale or Phoenix appreciate having a safe space where emotional healing and faith can be explored together. Whether you are navigating anxiety, trauma, betrayal, grief, relationship struggles, or life transitions, Christian counseling offers professional clinical support while honoring your values.

How do I know if I need to see a counselor?

You may benefit from counseling if something in your life feels overwhelming, painful, confusing, or stuck. You do not need to be in crises to benefit from support. Many individuals seek Christian counseling simply because they want greater clarity, healthier relationships, or personal growth.

What is EMDR?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidenced based therapy that helps the brain heal from trauma, distressing memories, anxiety, and painful life experiences. EMDR works by helping your brain process past events, so they feel less overwhelming and no longer impact your present in the same way.

Many clients seeking EMDR therapy in Scottsdale and Phoenix find it helpful for healing from betrayal trauma, anxiety, childhood experiences, grief, and relationship wounds. EMDR does not require you to share every detail of your experience and is designed to help you feel more grounded, peaceful, and emotionally free.

Is there Cancellation fee for missed appointments or late cancellations?

Yes, I have a strict 24-hour cancellation policy. If an appointment is missed or canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice, the full session fee is charged, regardless of the reason. When you schedule an appointment, you are reserving dedicated time with your therapist that cannot typically be filled on short notice.

This policy helps ensure consistent care for all clients and protects the availably of appointment times. I encourage clients to schedule thoughtfully and provide advance notice whenever possible if a change is needed.

Do you accept insurance?

My practice is primarily a private-pay counseling practice, allowing me to provide highly personalized, trauma-informed care with greater flexibility in treatment planning and therapeutic approaches.

I am currently in the process of becoming an in-network provider with Aetna and UnitedHealthcare. I have intentionally chosen to work with a limited number of insurance plans that allow me to maintain the quality, time, and individualized attention I believe are important to effective counseling. Please contact me to inquire about current insurance availability and coverage.

Some specialized services, including EMDR intensives, are offered on a private-pay basis and may not be eligible for in-network insurance coverage.

For clients with other insurance plans, you may have out-of-network benefits that can help reimburse a portion of the cost of counseling. I can provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.

Depending upon your insurance plan, you may be able to use out-of-network insurance benefits for counseling services. I can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement.
